HPS Archimedes' Principle Revisited and Science Fair Poster Assignment

In Class:
  • Review question #4 from HPS Lab 6.1: Applying Archimedes' Principle. Explanation with demonstration with balloons (the demo didn't go quite as well as planned, but students seemed to understand the principle better after the explanation anyway).
Homework:
  • HPS Lab 6.1: Applying Archimedes' Principle due Wed 1/30/2008.
  • Science Fair progress report poster presentation due Fri 2/1/2008:
    • Each team should put together a poster that shows:
      • the team's current status
      • what research has been done (summarize and list all references)
      • what work has been done:
        • what has been successful
        • what has not been successful
        • what adjustments/changes have been made since original concept
      • drafts of:
        • hypothesis
        • abstract (overall project summary)
        • any preliminary results that the team has (summarized OK)
        • preliminary conclusions (if any)
        • any graphics
    • Teams should prepare to present posters to each other. Students should aim to keep presentations to about 12-15 minutes.
